The Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer is universally considered one of the most important figures in international modern architecture. As well as being the major influence on the construction of Brasília, Brazil’s new capital, in the late 1950s, he has also designed numerous important buildings in other countries – including the United Nations headquarters in New York.
